Holy Tantra Jing Bian

This year's celebration of Buddha's 2545 Holy Birthday was held at the first floor of the teaching building of Jin-Gang-Dhyana Institute.

The teaching hall was well lit and immaculate.  A Holy Tantra altar mandala and flowers for Buddha's descent to Earth were reverently prepared.  Hung on the walls were large tangkas.  The atmosphere was permeated with Holy Tantra spiritual fragrance characteristic of Holy Tantra Esoteric Buddhism's offering rituals.  According to Vimalakirti Sutra, this fragrance comes from the pure lands of Buddhas, revealing the peaceful, quiet and solemn state of Buddhas' pure lands.

Hung on all the walls of the main celebration assembly hall were Holy Tantra jing bian mandalas depicting Vimalakirti Jing Bian; each mandala occupied an area of about two square metres.  This setting is a traditional style of Dharma dissemination by the Han transmission of Holy Tantra Esoteric Buddhism.  According to the Tibetan transmission of Holy Tantra Esoteric Buddhism, they are called tangkas.

According to the holy revelation of Holy Zhi-Ji Vimalakirti Ahdharma Buddha Patriarch Master WANG, jing bian is an abbreviated term for scriptures transformed from words to pictures, i.e. jing bian are holy scriptures made up of pictures.

The contents of these tangkas were the jing bian of Vimalakirti Sutra, obtained from Ming Sha Sheng Mi Tian (Humming Sand Holy Tantra Heaven) in Dunhuang of China.  Each large-sized tangka is surrounded by Buddha images of Bucchusma.  Bucchusma is a fierce manifestation of Vairocana, the Great Sun Tathagata, who specializes in igniting and burning out the five poisons, "greed, anger, wishful desires, (self) arrogance and doubt" from sentient beings' minds, and generates the grand application of "attaining Buddhahood within this life".

Vimalakirti Jing Bian artistically relives the sacred image of Esoteric Buddhism's ancestral master in ancient India, the Great Sage Vimalakirti who relinquished the monastery to mingle with common people and gave up the sangha jewel form.  Holy Vimalakirti dressed in fine Dharma attire, with nape prayer beads, Holy Tantra wrist beads and holding a "ru yi" (wish-fulfilling) Dharma implement for regulating sentient beings.  He was displaying the image of a great holy heavenly being.

Vimalakirti Jing Bian also shows that the Dharma nature of Holy Vimalakirti and Root teacher Buddha Sakyamuni is the same, thus revealing that Vimalakirti Sutra is an important milestone in Buddhist doctrine's development from Hinayana to Mahayana.

Vimalakirti Jing Bian shows how the Great Sage Vimalakirti applied upaya to temper and transform sentient beings; He applied The Great Healer Dharma approach to treat various illnesses of sentient beings and to relieve sentient beings' multiple sufferings.  He manifested sickness Himself.  Together with Manjushri, they staged a grand play of deliverance of sentient beings through discussing The Non-dual Dharma Approach of One Vehicle Dharma Nature. The purpose was to educate Hinayana sages to turn from the lesser vehicle to the major vehicle (Mahayana), to move from exoteric to esoteric, to gain command of various total controls of the Universe, and to realize attainment within the current life.

These large-sized tangkas, through the form of pictorial art, vividly composed the gist of Vimalakirti Sutra.  They relive the lustrous image of Holy Vimalakirti, Holy Tantra Esoteric Buddhism's ancestral master in ancient India.  His holy deeds of freely and dramatically utilizing miraculous powers and exoterically applying esoteric Dharma revealed the long and well established standing of Holy Tantra Esoteric Buddhism.  Also revealed is Holy Tantra Esoteric Buddhism's profound and lengthy lineage transmission.
